Beyond a Simple Cup

Beyond a Simple Cup

Since ancient times, drinking tea has been a part of the eating routine of many people. However, many of its medicinal properties have not been discovered until recently. Among the most popular teas is chamomile tea, which has been used for its beneficial effects on many health conditions.

Traditionally, chamomile tea has been used as a sedative to induce sleep and as a painkiller to relieve the pain caused by gastrointestinal inflammation and spasms. Some people even use it to reduce stress, joint pain, eye irritation, and skin inflammation due to burns, rashes, or allergies. However, the latter has not been proved in research studies with humans, but only with animals.

Currently, it has been shown in research that its use is recommended in cases of flu and menstrual cramps. Recently, the American Chemical Society proved that extracts of chamomile can slow down the growth of cancer cells. In addition, a recent study concluded that the daily consumption of chamomile may contribute to the prevention of complications associated with diabetes.

You may be wondering what the best way to take it is. First of all, make sure to be using german chamomile ( Matricaria chamomilla). Then, prepare an infusion, leaving chamomile in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes. Now you can drink and enjoy this hot beverage.

Although more studies are needed to support some of the beneficial effects of this drink, we shouldn’t assume that only because it is an herb it won’t have an impact on health. People who are allergic to pollen or flowers should use chamomile with caution. People who take anticoagulants should consult their doctor before taking chamomile products. Finally, keep in mind that natural or herbal treatments should never replace medical treatment and supervision.
