Weight-lifting and Weight Loss

Q. Is it true that if I lift weights while I’m trying to lose weight, my body fat will become hard and I won’t be able to lose any more weight?   Thanks, Sebastian.

R. Hi Sebastian. Thank you for contacting us. What you’re mentioning is actually a popular belief, but isn’t based on reality. Although while trying to lose weight you should emphasize aerobic exercises (for example, jogging, brisk walking, riding bicycle, swimming, dancing, etc.), anaerobic exercises, like lifting moderate weights, also have beneficial effects on fat and calorie burning. Once you’ve reached your weight goal, lifting weights will also help you tone up your muscles. I hope I solved your doubt. Best regards,
